Apple TV+ has become a go-to destination for cozy comfort viewing, thanks to heartfelt dramedies like Ted Lasso and the Jason Segel-led Shrinking. While Ted Lasso is gearing up for its own fourth season, Shrinking is already moving ahead with production on Season 4—and the cast has just dropped a major update about the timeline.
At the Newport TV Fest, Collider spoke with several Shrinking stars, who confirmed that the upcoming season will feature a significant time jump. Michael Urie, who plays Brian, revealed the gap will be approximately two years. Urie expressed excitement about exploring fatherhood with his character, while Lukita Maxwell (Alice) noted that the jump brings her closer in age to her on-screen persona. "I don't know if it's any different from any other season," Maxwell said. "You're always going to catch them in a new place or in a new state of mind and I think it is exciting that there is a significant chunk of time."
This time jump follows the events of Season 3, which already launched a new chapter for Jimmy (Segel), Paul (Harrison Ford), and the rest of the ensemble. The series has earned widespread praise for its authentic portrayal of mental health and therapy, and the creative team shows no signs of slowing down. Season 4 also recently added MCU star Karen Gillan, who will appear ahead of her role in Henry Cavill's Highlander remake.
In addition to the time jump, Harrison Ford confirmed that Shrinking Season 4 will consist of 12 episodes, maintaining the show's trend toward the higher end of the streaming episode count. The series has consistently delivered 10 to 12 episodes per season, giving fans plenty of time with their favorite characters.
As for what fans can expect plot-wise, even the cast is kept in the dark until just days before filming. Ted McGinley, who spoke with Collider at the same event, said he enjoys the mystery. "It's really fun to not know" what's coming, he admitted, calling it one of television's most innovative comedies.
While Shrinking continues to charm audiences, Apple TV+ is also making waves with other psychological thrillers like Cape Fear, which is becoming a streaming sensation. The platform's blend of tense dramas and cozy comedies keeps subscribers coming back for more.
All three seasons of Shrinking are currently streaming on Apple TV+. Stay tuned for more updates on Season 4 as production continues.
