Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind the Evil Dead franchise and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy, is returning to streaming this May with the dark comedy thriller Send Help on Hulu. But long before that, Raimi helped shape some of TV's most beloved genre shows, including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. Yet one of his most binge-worthy fantasy series remains relatively unknown: Legend of the Seeker, which originally aired in 2008 and is now available on Prime Video.

Based on Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth novels, Legend of the Seeker delivers well-crafted character arcs, romantic tension, and heroic battles against evil. Though it only ran for two seasons, its 44 episodes make it a perfect weekend binge. If you're looking for a fantasy adventure that feels both classic and fresh, this is it.

Netflix's Cult Thriller 'Unchosen' Defies Expectations as May 2026's Sleeper Hit
Netflix's six-part cult thriller 'Unchosen' has quietly become a streaming sensation, racking up 10.4 million views in its debut week and dominating the platform's global charts.

What Is 'Legend of the Seeker' About?

The story follows Richard Cypher (Craig Horner), a simple woodsman from Westland who unknowingly carries a great destiny. His life changes when he rescues Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan), the Mother Confessor—a powerful woman who can control anyone with a single touch. Together, they seek the wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander (Bruce Spence), who reveals that Richard is the prophesied Seeker of Truth, destined to wield the Sword of Truth and defeat the evil tyrant Darken Rahl (Craig Parker).

What follows is an epic quest filled with magic, danger, and a forbidden romance. The Seeker and the Confessor are drawn to each other, but their love is complicated by Kahlan's powers—unless Richard truly loves her with all his heart, her magic will have no effect. This tension makes their relationship one of the most compelling aspects of the series.

Why 'Legend of the Seeker' Stands Out

Filmed in New Zealand, the show boasts stunning landscapes and gorgeous costumes that still hold up today. The fight choreography is fantastic, and the mythology is rich enough to keep you hooked. Horner's Richard is a noble, believable hero, while Regan's Kahlan is a powerful partner, not a damsel in distress. Their chemistry is palpable from the start.

The series also features strong female characters, including Cara (Tabrett Bethell), a Mord-Sith warrior who evolves from a cold torturer to a compelling ally. Fans of Xena: Warrior Princess will appreciate the depth and agency given to these women.
