Middle-earth enthusiasts, get ready: one of the biggest enigmas in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is finally getting some answers. Ciarán Hinds, who plays the enigmatic Dark Wizard, has confirmed that Season 3 will shed light on his character's true identity and motivations.

In an exclusive chat with Collider at the premiere of his new Netflix series East of Eden, Hinds played coy but promised that viewers will "find out" more about the Dark Wizard in the upcoming season. "If you know anything, will you let me know?" he joked. "I don't think there's anything I can tease. I've ended up having about three different names from people along the way, so then you go and say, 'What was in the creator's head or who was making it up?' So that idea of kind of a mystical character who no one knows his endgame is very interesting. Whether he just goes with the flow, or whether he has a long term plan, you'll find out."

Netflix's 'Poldark' Is Leaving in October 2026: Last Chance to Binge All 5 Seasons
Netflix is losing all five seasons of the BBC's Poldark in October 2026. The Aidan Turner period drama is a must-binge before it rides off into the sunset.

Since his debut in Season 2, the Dark Wizard has been a subject of intense fan speculation, with many theorizing he could be an early version of Saruman. Hinds' comments suggest that the show is ready to pull back the curtain on this mysterious figure, whose true name and purpose have been kept under wraps.

Season 3 of The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 11, with the first four episodes dropping that day. The remaining episodes will follow on a accelerated schedule: Episodes 5 and 6 arrive on November 18, and the season finale lands on November 25. This quick rollout means the entire season will be available in just two weeks, a departure from the traditional weekly release.

While the show has yet to be officially renewed for Season 4, signs point to a continuation. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Prime Video had already opened a writers' room for a fourth season and was planning to shoot next year. Given that new seasons have arrived every other year since the show's 2022 debut, an official renewal announcement is expected around the time of the Season 3 premiere.

Beyond the series, the Lord of the Rings franchise is expanding in other exciting ways. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, directed by and starring Andy Serkis, is slated for theaters on December 17, 2027. First-look images from the set have already teased a return to the visually stunning Middle-earth of Peter Jackson's original trilogy. Additionally, Warhorse Studios, known for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is developing a new open-world RPG set in Middle-earth, though details remain scarce.

For now, fans can catch up on the first two seasons of The Rings of Power on Prime Video and mark their calendars for November 11. With Hinds promising that the Dark Wizard's secrets will be unveiled, Season 3 is shaping up to be a pivotal chapter in the series.
