Eighteen years after its debut, Repo! The Genetic Opera remains a beloved cult favorite, blending horror, comedy, and musical theater in a way that still feels fresh. Now, fans can experience the film like never before with a new 4K Blu-ray Steelbook from Lionsgate, packed with special features that are as generous as a rib cage full of donor organs. We're thrilled to offer an exclusive sneak peek at the feature-length behind-the-scenes documentary included in the set.
Set in 2056, Repo! The Genetic Opera imagines a world where organ failure is rampant, and the sinister GeneCo corporation offers replacements—for a price. Miss a payment, and you'll get a deadly visit from one of the company's Repo Men. The story centers on GeneCo CEO Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino), who is dying and whose scheming children (played by Bill Moseley, Nivek Ogre, and Paris Hilton) are already fighting over his fortune. But Rotti has other plans: he intends to leave everything to Shilo Wallace (Alexa Vega), the sickly daughter of GeneCo's head Repo Man (Anthony Stewart Head).
The exclusive clip from "The Anatomy of a Cult" offers a behind-the-scenes look at the film's final shot, with the cast and crew celebrating the end of production. But for director Darren Lynn Bousman, known for his work on Saw II, III, IV, and Spiral, the moment was bittersweet. In his commentary, Bousman reveals he was wondering if he'd ever reach these heights again. The production had been so challenging that he struggled to appreciate what he and the team had created while it was happening.
What's in the 4K Steelbook?
The Steelbook features an all-new 4K remaster approved by Bousman himself. It also includes a fresh audio commentary with Bousman and co-creators Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich, plus a featurette titled "Addicted to the Shadowcast." Legacy special features include a cast and crew commentary, select scene commentary with Bousman and Paris Hilton, deleted scenes, video singalongs, trailers, and more. The whole package comes in a case with new artwork from Chuck Styles and includes four double-sided character cards.
For those who've been waiting to own this cult classic in the best possible quality, the Repo! The Genetic Opera 4K Steelbook is available to order now on LionsgateLimited.com. It's a must-have for fans and a perfect introduction for newcomers.
