While the world waits for the next big-screen James Bond, the iconic secret agent has already found a new home—in the world of video games. Patrick Gibson, the actor voicing a young 007 in 007 First Light, is stepping into the spotlight for his first major live appearance since the game's release.
Gibson will take the Side Quest Stage at MCM Birmingham Comic Con on Saturday, August 8, at 1 PM local time. The panel will dive into his work on the game, which serves as an origin story for James Bond, exploring the character before he becomes the seasoned spy audiences know from films and novels.
Interestingly, Gibson didn't initially realize he was auditioning for Bond. "There was talk of martinis in the audition sides that gave me an inkling," he said. "Although at that point I didn't believe there was any way it could be that." The revelation that he was indeed playing 007 tested his anxiety threshold, but the enormity of the role pushed him forward. "It felt so impossible as a dream that I was like, sure, may as well throw my hat in here," he added.
Gibson, also known for playing young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin, avoided copying any single previous Bond performance. While Daniel Craig was the Bond he grew up with, Gibson focused on finding the character's core before the classic mythology fully formed. "The most exciting part was stripping away the experiences of the Bonds we've met in books and films and being left with the DNA of 'who is this person?'" he explained.
007 First Light, developed by IO Interactive, is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release expected later this summer. For fans eager to see Gibson in person, his Comic Con appearance is a must-attend event.
