When it comes to romantic adaptations, Prime Video has a knack for turning page-turners into binge-worthy series. From the beloved To All the Boys I've Loved Before to the more recent Every Year After, the streamer has built a loyal audience for love stories. But Off Campus has achieved something rare: it's held a spot in the Top 10 for five straight months since its debut. That kind of staying power doesn't happen by accident, and there are plenty of reasons viewers keep coming back.

Starring Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli as Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, the show arrived on the heels of Heated Rivalry's success, but it quickly carved out its own identity. While both share a hockey backdrop, Off Campus stands apart thanks to the undeniable chemistry between its leads, a supporting cast that's just as compelling, and a tone that balances playful moments with deeper, more mature themes.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Witcher 3 Gear in New Crossover Update
CD Projekt Red's latest Cyberpunk 2077 update adds Witcher 3-inspired cosmetics, including Geralt's Ursine armor, sword, and more. Here's what's new.

What's the Story?

Set at the fictional Briar University, the series follows Hannah, a music major juggling straight A's, two part-time jobs, and a passion for singing in her dorm room. When her scholarship is suddenly yanked, she's desperate to find a way to stay in school. Enter Garrett, the charming captain of the Briar Hawks hockey team, whose grades are as shaky as his on-ice skills are solid. If he doesn't improve academically, he's off the team.

The two have nothing in common except a shared philosophy class. Impressed by Hannah's smarts, Garrett asks her to tutor him, but she turns him down. That is, until he discovers her secret crush on fellow student Justin Kohl (Josh Heuston). He makes a deal: she helps him pass, and he'll help her get Justin's attention by pretending to date. It's a ridiculous plan, but with no other options, Hannah agrees—and what starts as a fake relationship slowly becomes something real.

A Healthier Take on Enemies-to-Lovers

Romance tropes can easily veer into toxic territory, but Off Campus gives the enemies-to-lovers dynamic a refreshingly wholesome spin. Hannah and Garrett's initial friction doesn't come from wanting to hurt each other—it's simply a lack of understanding. As they spend more time together, they learn to see the world from each other's perspectives, especially given their very different backgrounds. It's a far cry from the problematic dynamics seen in shows like Gossip Girl.

Beyond the central couple, the series is packed with moments that have taken on a life of their own on social media. Hannah's jaw-dropping singing performance, Allie Hayes (Mika Abdalla) stealing the spotlight in a J.Lo-inspired outfit, and a soundtrack that's genuinely great all add to the show's personality. Then there are the cheekier scenes—Garrett's awkward yet endearing dance to The Kid LAROI's "Girls," Allie and Dean Di Laurentis (Stephen Kayn) hooking up in a photo booth, and that unforgettable "Don't blush" training kiss between Hannah and Garrett. These are the moments that keep fans talking long after the credits roll.

Handling Heavy Topics with Care

But Off Campus isn't just about viral clips. The show tackles serious issues like sexual assault trauma, parental abuse, and male vulnerability without being preachy. These subjects come up naturally as the characters navigate college life. For those who've experienced trauma, intimacy can be complicated, and the series handles that with sensitivity. It also shows that even "manly" hockey players need to support each other emotionally, without mocking them for being vulnerable.

With Season 1 centered on Hannah and Garrett, Season 2 is set to shift focus to a couple whose chemistry has been simmering in the background. Based on Kennedy's third novel, The Score, the new season will explore Allie and Dean's already-complicated situationship, which gets even messier when Allie's new crush shows up at Briar U—and, surprise, he's connected to the hockey team. With five books in the series and more couples to adapt, Off Campus has plenty of material to keep its chart-topping streak alive.

If you haven't checked it out yet, now's the perfect time to see what all the buzz is about. And while you're at it, you might want to catch up on other Prime Video gems before October ends.
