What Is 'Hot Spot' About?
Drawing inspiration from classics like Total Recall, Mad Max, and Scanners, Smoczyńska and Bolesto craft a sprawling dystopian world that taps into modern anxieties about the future. In Hot Spot, society has become almost unrecognizable due to global unrest and a harsh climate. Humans now depend on a sentient AI system called Head, which keeps them connected and compliant.
But not everyone is on board. A group of refugees known as the Neosouls live off-grid, rejecting the AI. When their leader, Rana (played by Rapace), brings her people to the city seeking resources, they face brutal opposition for refusing to connect. After one of the travelers is murdered, a detective named Djonny (Andrzej Konopka)—himself a former refugee—is assigned to the case. His investigation leads him straight to Rana, and the encounter threatens to unravel his very identity.
