Christopher Nolan's monumental adaptation of Homer's ancient epic, The Odyssey, has been a force to be reckoned with since its summer debut. Now, fans can bring the legendary journey home just in time for the holidays. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the film will be available on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray starting November 17, 2026, with a digital release on the same day.
The film, which has amassed over $1.7 billion globally, stands as the highest-grossing entry in Nolan's filmography, surpassing even his previous hits. It's a testament to the director's ability to blend grand spectacle with intimate storytelling, a skill that has made him one of the most celebrated filmmakers of his generation.
A Star-Studded Odyssey
Matt Damon leads the cast as Odysseus, the Greek hero striving to return to his homeland of Ithaca after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway portrays his devoted wife, Penelope, while Tom Holland takes on the role of their son, Telemachus. The film also features a remarkable ensemble including Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Himesh Patel, each bringing depth to this timeless tale.
Interestingly, Holland's presence in The Odyssey coincides with his other massive 2026 hit, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which also starred Zendaya and Jon Bernthal—both of whom appear in Nolan's epic as well. This crossover has sparked conversations among fans about the versatility of these actors, who seamlessly transitioned from superhero blockbusters to a period epic.
More Than Just a Movie
Beyond its box office triumph, The Odyssey has been lauded by critics, with Collider's review calling it an "unrivaled cinematic spectacle." The film's success extends to its physical media, as the collectible Steelbook and a deluxe $300 three-disc set have already sold out, underscoring the high demand among collectors.
For those eager to experience the film in theaters once more, The Odyssey returned to select IMAX screens on October 9, 2026, offering a final chance to see Nolan's vision on the big screen before it makes its home debut.
This release is a must-have for cinephiles and collectors alike, promising stunning visuals and immersive sound that will bring the ancient world to life in your living room. As we await the arrival of this epic on shelves, it's worth revisiting other fantasy epics that have left a mark on the genre, such as the best fantasy movies since 2010 or high fantasy TV shows that never missed.
With its blend of myth, adventure, and human emotion, The Odyssey is poised to become a staple in home entertainment collections. Mark your calendars for November 17, and prepare to set sail on one of cinema's most unforgettable voyages.
