Prime Video's gritty superhero series Spider-Noir hasn't officially been greenlit for a second season, but star Nicolas Cage is already buzzing about where his character, Ben Reilly, could head next. In a recent interview ahead of the show's binge release on May 27, Cage shared that he's heard "inklings" of plans for Season 2, and they involve taking the noir-inspired Spider-Man far beyond the mean streets of New York City.

"[To] see how he interacts with different cultures and different countries, whether it's South America or Asia or Europe. That could have some richness to it," Cage said, hinting at a potential globe-trotting arc that would add fresh texture to the series' homage to classic noir. While the show's future remains unconfirmed, the cast is clearly thinking about the loose ends left by that bloody finale—including the complicated love triangle between Ben, Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li), and Flint Marko (Jack Huston).

Guy Ritchie's TV Shows Ranked: From 'Lock, Stock' to 'Young Sherlock'
From 'Lock, Stock' to 'Young Sherlock,' Guy Ritchie's TV shows prove his chaotic style thrives on the small screen. Here's our definitive ranking.

Li Jun Li, who plays the femme fatale Cat, isn't convinced her character's connection to Ben is over, despite Cat choosing Flint in the finale. After a season packed with betrayals, war trauma, and impossible choices, there are plenty of threads for the series to follow if it returns. And as the cast revealed in a spoiler-filled chat, Spider-Noir leaves its characters changed but never fully healed, setting the stage for more complexity in a potential second season.

Cage Built Ben Reilly Like an Old Hollywood Noir Hero

For Cage, crafting Ben Reilly meant channeling the energy of classic cinema. The Oscar-winning actor said he looked to Howard Hawks' The Big Sleep for inspiration, particularly the fast-paced repartee and dry amusement of Humphrey Bogart's character. "Bogart's character in that had this marvelous bemusement when he would see somebody doing something naughty that he would find it amusing, and he would start laughing right in the other actor's face," Cage explained. "I wanted to bring that energy to Ben Reilly."

But Cage didn't just copy a hard-boiled detective. He focused on what it meant for this version of Spider-Man—first introduced in the Into the Spider-Verse movies—to have strong arachnid DNA running through his body. "Because I had eight episodes to create this character, I was able to dig a little deeper," he said. "I had the luxury of time to explore what really interested me, which is that sort of arachnid DNA and how that would affect his body language and his thoughts."

That idea had been percolating for years. Cage recalled telling Sam Raimi during the Spider-Man films that whoever played the hero should have a scene crawling like a spider. For Spider-Noir, he finally got to go all in. For more on the show's finale, check out our interview with Jack Huston on Sandman's epic showdown.

Gleeson Wanted Silvermane To Be More Than a Comic Book Mobster

Brendan Gleeson, who plays the villain Silvermane, took a similarly nuanced approach. Rather than just playing a comic book mobster, he and the creative team shaped the character through an Irish mob lens. "We wanted to go into an area where he was Dublin rather than country," Gleeson said. "I wanted to do a Dublin guy this time, and kind of visit him in a little noir film."

That meant giving Silvermane a backstory rooted in poverty, which helped "muddy the waters of the goodies and the baddies thing." Gleeson also reflected on his character's relationship with Cat, who ultimately kills him in the finale. "I didn't really underestimate her. I thought I liberated her," he said with a smirk. "I always felt that his heart was compromised by her, and not only did he know it, but he delighted in it." That emotional weakness kept Silvermane from becoming a flat monster, adding depth to the show's moral complexity.

With the finale leaving so many threads dangling—from Ben's future to Cat's choices—fans are eagerly awaiting news of a Season 2 renewal. For now, Cage's hints of a global adventure offer a tantalizing glimpse of what could come. If you're looking for more to stream, check out our list of best shows to binge on Prime Video this week.
