Netflix is doubling down on its global heist empire, and the latest teaser suggests the red jumpsuits and Dalí masks aren't going anywhere anytime soon. After the massive success of the original Money Heist and its spin-off Berlin, the streaming giant has officially confirmed that the franchise will continue beyond the upcoming Berlin Season 2. The announcement came during a spectacular public event in Seville on May 9, complete with red jumpsuits, Dalí masks, a boat on the Guadalquivir River, and the iconic "Bella Ciao" blasting for the crowd.
The Numbers Behind the Obsession
The original Money Heist remains a powerhouse, with three seasons still sitting in Netflix's all-time Top 10 for Non-English TV. From 2023 through 2025, the main show racked up 1.3 billion hours watched and around 160 million views. The spin-off Berlin Season 1 was no slouch either: it opened as Netflix's most-watched series globally in its premiere week, hit the Top 10 in 91 countries, and stayed in the Non-English Global Top 10 for seven consecutive weeks, earning 348 million hours viewed and 53 million total views.
What's Next for the Heist Universe?
Netflix hasn't revealed whether the next project will be Berlin Season 3, another character spin-off, an international expansion, or a direct continuation of Money Heist. But the teaser's gold-bar imagery strongly signals that the Professor's world is still very much in play. The franchise's brain—the Professor, played by Álvaro Morte—survived the original finale, so Netflix doesn't need a resurrection trick to bring him back. That leaves two obvious routes: a prequel exploring how he became the mastermind behind the heists, or a continuation where his methods, enemies, and unfinished business pull him back in.
Berlin Season 2: What to Expect
The next installment, Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, arrives globally on May 15, 2026. This season shifts the franchise to Seville for an art-theft story involving Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, blackmail, revenge, romance, and another high-style job. If you haven't caught up yet, now is the perfect time to binge the original series before its big return. Could the Professor Return?
The Professor is the franchise's heart and mind, and his character feels too big to die off with the original series. His backstory—his training, relationships, and evolution into the architect of the heists—was left with plenty of open space. A prequel or sequel could easily bring him back, and fans are already speculating. While Netflix hasn't confirmed his return, the show's continuity and his importance make these questions unavoidable.
