Fans of Netflix's breakout Western crime drama Untamed have a double dose of good news: the series is not only returning for a second season, but it's also getting a physical release that will let you own the first season on DVD. Warner Bros. Television has confirmed that Untamed: The Complete First Season will hit shelves on October 20, 2026, giving viewers a chance to revisit the gripping mystery that made the show an instant hit.
Premiering on July 17, 2025, Untamed quickly became one of Netflix's most-watched series, debuting at No. 1 on the English TV chart with 24.6 million views in its first four days. It held the top spot the following week, adding another 26.1 million views. The show's success led to an early renewal for a second season, and production began in March 2026 on Oʻahu and the island of Hawaiʻi.
What Is 'Untamed' About?
Created by Mark L. Smith (American Primeval) and Elle Smith, Untamed stars Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Service's Investigative Services Branch stationed in Yosemite National Park. Still grieving the death of his young son, Turner is drawn into a murder investigation after a mysterious woman is found dead in the park's remote wilderness. Alongside rookie park ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago), the pair uncover long-buried secrets hidden beneath Yosemite's stunning landscape.
The first season, which holds an 83% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, also features Rosemarie DeWitt and the late Sam Neill. The DVD set includes all six episodes, with a total runtime of approximately 288 minutes.
What's Coming in Season 2?
Originally conceived as a limited series, Untamed was expanded to a second season due to its overwhelming popularity. This time, Turner leaves behind the memories that have haunted him for years and travels to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park to investigate another mysterious death. As he navigates local tensions and an environment shaped by one of the world's most active volcanic landscapes, the investigation quickly becomes more dangerous than expected.
Joining Bana in Season 2 are newcomers Shea Whigham (American Primeval), Kelly Hu (Finding 'Ohana), Moon Bloodgood (Falling Skies), and Kekoa Kekumano. While Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for the second season, the DVD release gives fans a perfect opportunity to catch up or revisit the first season before the new episodes drop.
