Two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas is getting personal. In his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, the legendary actor opens up about everything from growing up as Kirk Douglas's son to his own rise to fame, his battles with addiction and cancer, and the love story that changed his life. But as he revealed in a recent interview, some of the book's juiciest anecdotes might have his publicist sweating.

During a conversation with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Douglas was asked which story his publicist probably wishes he'd left on the cutting room floor. With a laugh, he teased two particularly scandalous tales. The first involves a Christmas gift from his father—a set of beautiful leather suitcases—and what Douglas did with them. The second? The night he and Catherine Zeta-Jones decided to be exclusive, which meant making a series of difficult phone calls to end other relationships.

Douglas explained that his memory isn't what it used to be, which is partly why he decided to write the memoir. He hired someone to help organize his life chronologically, using his films as milestones, and then reached out to old friends to fill in the gaps. "After all, when it's all over, all we have is memories," he said, "and it depends how much you have."

The book dives deep into the making of iconic films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Fatal Attraction, and Basic Instinct, but Douglas admits they had to leave some movies out. He specifically mentioned The Game, Wonder Boys, and Black Rain as titles that didn't make the final cut. "We struggled on that," he said, hinting that there were plenty of wild stories from those sets that could have filled another book.

Growing up as the son of a Hollywood icon wasn't always easy. Douglas recalled that kids at school were quick to assume he was a spoiled rich kid because of his father's fame. "I have always been very aware of who my father was, because everybody else reminded me," he said. When asked what his dad would think of the memoir, Douglas shared a classic Kirk Douglas quip: "Son, if I knew you were going to be this successful, I would have been nicer to you."

Douglas also revealed that one of his possible titles for the book was One Lucky Bastard, but he ultimately chose One Helluva Ride because the other didn't reflect the hard work he put in. "I've been so blessed, so fortunate," he said, "but that title didn't give me any benefit of the hard work that I had done by myself."

For fans of Douglas's work, the memoir is a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes stories and personal revelations. And for those who love a good celebrity tell-all, it's a reminder that even the most polished stars have a few skeletons in the closet—and sometimes, they're happy to share them.
