After spending much of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on the run, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) finally returns to the public eye in a major way. The penultimate episode, now streaming on Disney+, sees the Man Without Fear trading his mask for a lawyer's suit as he defends Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) in court. It's a bold move that not only reasserts Matt's dual identity but also sets the stage for a climactic showdown with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio).
Meanwhile, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) continues to dig into the mysterious Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard), a shadowy government operative with a complicated history with Fisk. In a tense interrogation, Charles reveals a truckload of information that fans of the Defenders have been waiting for. He confirms that Jessica's super-strength and limited flight have been weakening for some time, which explains why she's stepped back from heroics to raise her daughter, Danielle. More importantly, Charles drops the first official mention of Luke Cage (Mike Colter) in Daredevil: Born Again, suggesting the unbreakable hero is currently "overseas" and under government surveillance. This revelation strongly implies that Luke is Danielle's father, adding a new layer to Jessica's personal stakes.
Matt Murdock's Return to the Courtroom
One of the biggest criticisms of Season 1 was that Matt spent too much time as a lawyer and not enough as Daredevil. But in Episode 7, his legal skills are more crucial than ever. With Karen captured by Fisk's goons and facing trial for the murder of James Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore), Matt uses his status as a presumed-dead hero to his advantage. Thanks to a tip from Detective Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson), Matt is able to contact Karen and then makes a dramatic reappearance in court to defend her. Fisk, wary of revealing Matt's secret identity, is forced to play a dangerous game of legal chess.
But Fisk isn't one to play fair. He sends the AVTF to ambush Matt in a parking garage, leaving the hero seriously injured. It's a brutal reminder that even the Devil of Hell's Kitchen can be caught off guard. Later, a battered Matt seeks solace in a church, where Jessica Jones finds him, offering a glimmer of hope for the final battle.
Fisk's Empire Crumbles
As Fisk continues to spiral after the death of his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer), his underlings scramble to hold his political empire together. The episode takes time to show the mayor's inner circle trying to eliminate his detractors, including a governor who withdrew her support. Enter Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), who has escaped Matt and Karen's custody and now seems committed to doing good—at least when it comes to taking down Fisk. He intervenes just in time to save the governor, proving that even the deadliest assassins can change their aim.
Meanwhile, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) conducts another of her ethically questionable psychiatric evaluations, this time with Karen. Heather's personal animosity toward Karen is palpable as she brings up the murder of Wesley, a clear attempt to smear the defendant. It's a tense scene that underscores the psychological warfare Fisk is waging.
With only one episode left, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is barreling toward a finale that promises to be as explosive as anything in the MCU. Fans can expect a full-scale confrontation between Matt and Fisk, with Jessica Jones and Bullseye likely playing key roles. And with Season 3 already filming in New York, the wait for more may feel like a shard of glass to the head—but at least the journey is thrilling.
