After years of waiting, Kingdom Hearts fans finally have a concrete date to mark on their calendars. Square Enix has announced that the franchise will receive its own dedicated presentation at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Anaheim, California. The panel, titled “Deep Dive Into Kingdom Hearts,” is set to run from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. PT at the Anaheim Convention Center, and it's expected to deliver the biggest update on Kingdom Hearts 4 since the game was first teased in April 2022.
A Long-Awaited Return to Quadratum
Square Enix officially announced Kingdom Hearts 4 over four years ago, leaving protagonist Sora (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) stranded in the mysterious city of Quadratum with little more than a cryptic trailer. The silence finally broke earlier this summer when a new gameplay trailer surfaced, showcasing the sequel's more realistic art style, revamped combat mechanics, and the enigmatic new chapter awaiting Sora. Yet, major questions remained unanswered—which Disney worlds will appear? When will the game actually launch? Now, D23 offers the best chance yet for answers.
What to Expect from the D23 Panel
According to Disney's official description, the panel will take fans on “a journey through light and darkness” while celebrating 25 years of the franchise. It will explore how Kingdom Hearts brought together Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with appearances and insights from the creative minds and voice actors behind the series. While Disney hasn't confirmed which developers or actors will participate—or explicitly stated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be featured—the timing is hard to ignore. The event has historically been a platform for major franchise news; for instance, Square Enix revealed the Big Hero 6 world for Kingdom Hearts 3 during D23 Expo 2015.
Fans are understandably hoping for more than a retrospective. The panel could easily focus on the series' approaching 25th anniversary in 2027, its music, voice cast, or merchandise. But with Kingdom Hearts 4 being the franchise's biggest upcoming project, expectations are high for a new trailer, a Disney world reveal, or even the release window that Square Enix has so far refused to provide. As Ryan Gosling's 'Project Hail Mary' becomes Prime Video's biggest sci-fi hit, the gaming world is equally eager for Sora's next adventure.
D23: More Than Just a Fan Event
D23 will run from August 14 through August 16, 2026, in Anaheim, California. The event also includes Disney's larger Entertainment and Experiences showcases, both promising new looks and announcements across the company's biggest franchises. Whether Sora appears during one of those presentations or only during the dedicated panel remains unknown. For now, August 15 is officially the next major date on the Kingdom Hearts calendar.
While fans wait, they can catch up on other entertainment news, like the Saw franchise leaving Netflix in July 2026 or Heartstopper Forever setting its final movie release. But for Kingdom Hearts devotees, the countdown to August 15 has officially begun.
