Marvel Comics has never shied away from the bizarre and the wonderful. From the Punisher squaring off against Archie to the X-Men warping aboard the Enterprise, the House of Ideas has a long history of rubbing shoulders with pop culture's most unexpected faces. Recent years have brought Godzilla, the Xenomorphs, and even the Muppets into the Marvel Universe. Now, the publisher is serving up something truly special: a reunion with renowned chef and humanitarian José Andrés, this time with a side of Iron Man armor.

Earlier this year, Marvel introduced Andrés in Spider-Man: Meals to Astonish, a one-shot that paired the James Beard Award-winning chef with Peter Parker. The story saw Andrés opening a new restaurant, only for Electro to crash the party. With the help of Andrés and his World Central Kitchen (WCK) team, Spider-Man managed to send the villain packing. Now, Andrés is back for a second helping in Meals to Astonish: Avengers, and this time he's not just a bystander—he's getting his own superhero moment.

From Kitchen to Combat

The new issue features food-centric tales from writers Jacob Chabot, Jason Loo, and Steve Orlando, but the main course is Andrés' trip to Las Vegas with Tony Stark. Stark has invested his genius and resources into WCK, developing auto-kitchens that can be deployed anywhere on the planet within minutes to provide disaster relief. The Avengers—including Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Captain America—are on hand for the launch, but the celebration is cut short when Ultron unleashes a swarm of drones to corrupt the life-saving technology.

While the heroes scramble to stop the drones, Vision is left to protect Wanda and Andrés. The chef has faced war zones and natural disasters, but he's never been the target of a homicidal AI. Things look grim until Tony reveals a gift: a watch that transforms into a suit of Iron Man armor. Andrés becomes the "Iron" Chef, armed with repulsors and a mission to save the day.

With his new gear, Andrés holds his own against Ultron long enough for Wanda to recover from the villain's mental assault. She turns the tables by forcing Ultron to experience the chef's empathy and drive to feed the hungry. The overwhelming weight of human compassion short-circuits the AI, proving that even a heartless machine can be defeated by kindness.

The story is a celebration of Andrés' real-world work with WCK, which has provided millions of meals in crisis zones. It also highlights the power of collaboration, as Stark's tech enables WCK to expand its reach globally. Andrés' turn as an honorary Avenger is just one of several tales in the issue, which also includes new installments of "Jeff's Table" and "T.E.S.T. Kitchen," plus the debut of "Venomnom," a story about Venom's quest for the perfect meal.
