John Rhys-Davies, beloved for his roles in Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones, is embarking on a new kind of adventure—one that pairs him with the son of a former co-star. The legendary actor stars alongside Paris Brosnan in Seniors, a fresh intergenerational comedy that promises laughter and heart. Collider is thrilled to exclusively debut the first trailer for the film, which hits select theaters this fall.
In Seniors, Paris Brosnan plays Ori Ingram, a troubled teenager with dreams of becoming a writer. After landing in community service at a seniors' residence, he meets Albert Vernon (Rhys-Davies), a cantankerous wheelchair user who's always plotting his escape. Initially resistant to Ori's help, Albert slowly warms up to the young man, becoming both a mentor in writing and in life. Albert, a Pulitzer-winning war correspondent, offers a blunt take on the craft: there's more money in tales of "wizards and dwarves," a wink to Rhys-Davies' iconic role as Gimli. He strikes a deal with Ori: help him win a month-long writing contest with a $25,000 prize, and Ori will dig up a safe Albert buried years ago.
The connection between Rhys-Davies and Brosnan runs deeper than this project. Rhys-Davies starred alongside Paris's father, Pierce Brosnan, in the 1988 miniseries Noble House. Reflecting on the experience, Rhys-Davies shared, "Seniors is a celebration of the bonds that connect generations. Having known and encouraged Pierce Brosnan years ago, it was especially meaningful to now work alongside Paris. In many ways, that full-circle experience reflects the heart of this film and the importance of investing in one another across generations."
The film boasts a talented ensemble, including Bethany Anne Lind (Doom Patrol), Eric Mendenhall (Outer Banks), Sophia Echendu (The Chi), and newcomer Tyler C. Toney. Directed by Lance Clark in his feature debut, Seniors is written by Erica Leigh Dick and produced by Clark and Matt Webb for Forester Film.
