As the release of Jimmy approaches, the biographical drama about Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart is gearing up to deliver a soundtrack that matches the weight of his story. The film, starring KJ Apa, chronicles Stewart's service as a WWII pilot and the role It's a Wonderful Life played in his return home. With a November 6 theatrical debut via Fathom Events, the production has already pledged $1 million to Vet Tix for military families and first responders, and now the music is set to honor the icon's dual legacy.
Collider can exclusively reveal that the soundtrack will feature contributions from Christian artist MŌRIAH (Smallbone) and award-winning composer Grant Fonda. Fonda's involvement carries a personal touch—he is the great-great-grandnephew of Henry Fonda, one of Stewart's closest friends. The score will also incorporate performances by the U.S. Air Forces Band in Europe, blending the actor's Hollywood fame with his decorated military service.
A Song for the Homecoming
MŌRIAH, known for her role as Batsheva on The Chosen and her music career, will perform the original track "Home to Me," written by Natalie Layne and Bernie Herms. The song, accompanied by a music video from Papaian Studios, serves as a tribute to Stewart's humility and courage. "Jimmy Stewart wasn’t just an unforgettable actor. He was known for being humble and courageous with a quiet conviction," MŌRIAH said in a statement. "I hope 'Home to Me' evokes the principles that guided Jimmy—the people who welcome us home are still what matter most."
Fonda, whose previous work includes rom-coms like At Midnight and ExMas, was chosen by director Aaron Burns for his ability to bridge past and present. As the grandson of a veteran, Fonda felt a deep connection to Stewart's journey. "Creating the score for JIMMY was a delight," he shared. "I hope people will, for another eighty years, look to their right and to their left and, while humming the themes from our film, hold close the people beside them."
Classics and New Arrangements
Music supervisor Barry Landis, known for Light of the World, has curated a soundtrack of 1940s standards, including "Ain’t She Sweet," "Someone to Watch Over Me," and "Ain’t Misbehavin'." Fonda also contributes a fresh arrangement of "Puttin' on the Ritz." The Air Forces band will perform "I'll Be Home for Christmas," sung by Chicago Fire alum Kara Killmer, who joins a cast featuring Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Rob Riggle, Neal McDonough, Sarah Drew, and Christopher McDonald.
The film, written by Justin Strawhand, aims to recreate the era's atmosphere, and the soundtrack is a key piece. An EP with the score and featured tracks will be released in November, coinciding with the film's premiere at the Lone Star Film Festival on November 4.
