Jason Momoa is finally bringing his dream role to life as Lobo in Supergirl, and he's not holding back on what it will take to get a solo movie. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor—who previously played Aquaman—revealed his one non-negotiable rule for a standalone Lobo film, settled a fan-debated fight between his two DC characters, and dropped tantalizing hints about A Minecraft Movie's sequel and Dune 3.
Momoa's Lobo—described by the late Stan Lee as "evil and vile and strong and ugly"—makes his debut in director Craig Gillespie's Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. In the film, Kara reluctantly teams up with a young avenger (Eve Ridley) and the "ditz from the dive bar" Lobo to save her super dog Krypto from space pirates. Momoa says the role is a lifelong passion, and he worked closely with makeup, prosthetics, and bike-building legend Dennis McCarthy to craft a look that's "an amalgamation of all the things that we love."
Momoa's R-Rated Demand for a Solo Lobo Movie
When asked about the possibility of a standalone Lobo film, Momoa was unequivocal: "I do not have any interest in making a Lobo PG-13 movie." He added, "If they want me, I'll be there [in other movies]. But if I make a solo movie, I'm not doing it unless it's rated R." The actor's commitment to an adult-oriented take on the character—known for his ultraviolent, irreverent comic book adventures—has fans buzzing. Momoa even joked that he and the interviewer would "will this into existence" together.
Lobo vs. Aquaman: Who Wins?
In a hypothetical battle royale between Momoa's Aquaman, Lobo, and Street Fighter's Blanka, the actor gave a definitive verdict. "Blanka is easily defeated," he said. "Lobo can't be killed, but Aquaman can—though the trident's pretty powerful. I think Lobo walks out prevailing." He acknowledged that location matters: "He could drown his ass, yes" if the fight moved to the ocean. But ultimately, Momoa mused, "Lobo and Aquaman have a lot in common. They'd probably just grab a couple of beers and go ride motorcycles."
Momoa also shared his excitement about the character's design, which involved full-body prosthetics and red contact lenses. "It helped me be the character more," he said. "I look in the mirror, see the red contacts, and I'm not Jason—I'm Lobo." He described his first scene as going "full throttle," adding, "There were no inhibitions. I was free."
Beyond Supergirl: Minecraft 2 and Dune 3 Updates
Momoa didn't stop at DC. He teased that A Minecraft Movie is already getting a sequel, though he offered no details. As for Dune 3, he hinted at progress but remained cagey. Fans can catch him next in Supergirl, which hits theaters with a tight 107-minute runtime—making it DC's shortest sci-fi blockbuster yet. With Momoa's Lobo poised to shake up the DCU, his R-rated demand could set the stage for a gritty, no-holds-barred solo adventure. Until then, fans can debate who'd win in a fight—or just imagine Lobo and Aquaman sharing a beer at a dive bar.
