The Insidious franchise is gearing up for its next chapter with Insidious: Out of the Further, and the cast is already dreaming big about what lies ahead. In a recent interview with Collider, franchise veteran Lin Shaye (Elise Rainier) and newcomers Amelia Eve and Brandon Perea shared their excitement for the film, their favorite scares, and some tantalizing hints about the future of the series.
Set to hit theaters this summer, Out of the Further follows Gemma (Eve), a young mother who discovers she can travel into The Further—and, more dangerously, bring things back. As demons exploit her newfound power, the line between our world and the spirit realm blurs. Perea plays Nick, a character caught in the chaos, while Shaye reprises her iconic role as the psychic Elise.
For Perea, a self-proclaimed Insidious superfan, joining the franchise was a dream come true. He recalled the moments that first hooked him, like the reveal of Lipstick-Face Demon and the eerie figure pacing behind a curtain in the original film. "Those scares really hooked me into this," he said, adding that the iconic piano stingers are "ingrained in my soul."
Eve, meanwhile, faced her own set of challenges. She admitted the dentist scene—a particularly tense sequence—was as tough as she anticipated. But the climactic finale, which she'd dreaded, turned out to be surprisingly manageable. "I felt so in it by then," she explained, "I knew who this woman was and what she'd been through."
Shaye, the heart of the series, offered a glimpse into Elise's untold backstory. She revealed that Elise has always had a "different kind of radio in her head," hearing screams and pain from the spirit world. "She absorbs it, as a matter of fact," Shaye said, hinting that this could lead to a darker transformation. "Maybe we see a whole different side to Elise."
When asked about future installments, Shaye was enthusiastic. "There's much more to this franchise," she promised, teasing ideas like an "Evil Elise" storyline. "Talk to James Wan," she added with a wink, suggesting the creator might have even bigger plans in store.
