Get ready for a crossover event that will delight fans of CBS's Thursday night lineup. Iain Armitage, beloved for his role as the young genius in Young Sheldon, is making his return to the network—but not in the way you might expect. Instead of heading to Texas, he's checking into the haunted Woodstone B&B for a special guest spot on the hit comedy Ghosts.
From Genius Child to High Roller
In the episode titled "Woodstone Royale," airing April 16, Armitage will appear as a fictionalized version of himself. The plot finds innkeepers Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) in desperate need of cash after ghostly antics land them in trouble with the IRS. Their solution? Hosting an exclusive, high-stakes poker game at the mansion, with Armitage's character arriving as one of the wealthy participants.
In an exclusive conversation, Armitage expressed his excitement about the unique role. "This is sort of the first time I've gotten to do a very, very different style of character where I'm sort of playing myself in a fun way," he shared. He humorously added that his real-life persona is "a little bit nicer" than the version viewers will see, promising the character will bring plenty of laughs to the poker table.
A Superfan's Dream Come True
Beyond the acting opportunity, the experience was a thrill for Armitage because he's a dedicated viewer of Ghosts. "It was such a funny and fun script to read and such a great time on set," he gushed. He revealed that the show is rare appointment television for him, saying, "Ghosts is one of the only shows that I consistently would watch on the night it aired, right when I got home."
The young actor is so hopeful for a positive reception that he's already campaigning for a return. "I hope it's good enough that fans watch it and they're like, 'Oh my goodness, this guy needs to be on Ghosts way more often,'" he said, encouraging viewers to write to the show's writers if they agree. He even got a sneak peek while doing audio replacement for one flubbed line, but like the audience, he's eager to see the final cut.
What's Next for Woodstone's Ghosts?
Before the poker night, CBS airs another new episode tonight, directed by star Utkarsh Ambudkar. In "Michael Jackson Goes to HR," Trevor's decision to send a stripper-gram to a coworker creates major problems, while Pete and Alberta face relationship strife. Following Armitage's episode, the season continues on April 23 with "The Investor," featuring the return of Justin Kirk as Tad the Mayor, which forces Sam and Jay into a tough choice to save their B&B.
The show is building toward a major milestone: its first-ever hour-long season finale, scheduled for May 21. This packed schedule proves Ghosts remains one of CBS's most spirited comedies.
