Harlan Coben's Netflix universe is expanding faster than ever. Just days after the first look at his ambitious Myron Bolitar series hit the internet, we've got word that another one of his projects has officially wrapped production. The Woods, based on Coben's 2007 novel of the same name, has finished filming, and it's bringing a familiar face back to the streaming giant.
Michelle Keegan, who led Coben's massive hit Fool Me Once, is headlining this new mystery. Coben himself has teased that The Woods is "haunting and very personal," promising all the twists and turns fans have come to expect, but with a deeper emotional core. "It has everything you expect from us — twisty, turning, gasp-inducing — but at the core is a story of old love and yearning," he said.
The series is a reunion of sorts, as Coben is once again teaming up with writer Danny Brocklehurst, his collaborator on several previous adaptations. The cast is stacked, featuring Tom Bateman, Mandeep Dhillon (MobLand), Pearce Quigley (Small Prophets), and Rade Sherbedgia (Slow Horses).
The official logline hints at a gripping premise: "A barrister becomes convinced his sister may still be alive, twenty years after her supposed death." That's the kind of hook that makes Coben's stories so binge-worthy.
Production company Quay Street Productions shared the wrap news on social media, confirming that we're one step closer to seeing the mystery unfold. While an exact release date hasn't been announced, The Woods is expected to hit Netflix in 2027.
A New Year's Tradition Broken
For the past few years, Netflix has kicked off January 1 with a fresh Coben adaptation — remember James Nesbitt's Run Away earlier this year? But The Woods is breaking that tradition. Instead, the New Year's Day slot will go to Jamie Dornan's The Twin, a miniseries based on Kristoffer Metcalfe's 2019 novel. That show's logline reads: "Adam and Nicola are stuck in a loveless marriage, but the return of Adam's identical twin Lee affects their life."
So while we'll have to wait a bit longer for The Woods, there's plenty of Coben content to tide us over. The Myron Bolitar series, starring KJ Apa and Colin Woodell, is aiming for a Bosch- or Reacher-style multi-season run, which could be a game-changer for the author's presence on the platform. With The Woods in the can and more projects on the horizon, Coben's partnership with Netflix shows no signs of slowing down. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to 2027.
