For years, Gwen Stacy has been the one major Spider-Man character conspicuously absent from Marvel Studios' corner of the multiverse. While fans have adored Emma Stone's take in The Amazing Spider-Man films and Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen in Sony's Spider-Verse franchise, the live-action MCU has kept her at arm's length. That changes in 2026—but not in the way most might expect.
Gwen will make her Marvel Studios debut in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, the animated Disney+ series set in its own alternate timeline, separate from the MCU's Sacred Timeline. Showrunner Jeff Trammell confirmed her arrival months ago, but recent social media teases have given fans a first look at her character designs—both in civilian clothes and in full Spider-Gwen gear. The artwork strongly suggests this Gwen won't just be a classmate; she'll be a costumed hero in her own right.
Season 1 of the series, which reimagines Peter Parker's early years, may have already laid the groundwork. In the premiere, a radioactive spider bites Peter after falling through a mysterious portal. That same spider—or another altered one—could easily have continued its journey through Midtown, setting the stage for Gwen's transformation. Season 2 was officially greenlit for fall 2026 during New York Comic Con, with Trammell hinting at escalating symbiote storylines and the return of Charlie Cox's Daredevil alongside Gwen's introduction.
This isn't the Gwen Stacy who will eventually cross paths with Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Instead, the animated series offers a fresh playground for classic characters. In his review for Collider, Mike Thomas noted that while the show may not top the best Spider-Man animated series, it succeeds by embracing its own identity. Originally conceived as a direct MCU prequel, the project evolved into a looser reimagining, allowing it to remix familiar mythology without being constrained by continuity.
For fans hungry for more Spider-Man content, the wait for Gwen's live-action MCU debut continues. But her animated arrival is a major milestone, bringing one of the web-slinger's most iconic supporting characters into the Marvel Studios fold. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 drops on Disney+ in fall 2026.
