In the latest episode of From, titled "Of Myths and Monsters," Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) takes a bold step forward in testing her mysterious storywalking powers—and a seemingly simple haircut holds a deeper connection to the show's biggest sci-fi twist. The MGM+ horror series has been building toward this moment since Season 3's finale, and Cheramy is thrilled to finally explore what makes her character so special.
Speaking exclusively about the episode, Cheramy revealed that Julie's new look is more than just a style change. "It ties back to the time-travel twist in a haunting way," she said. "When you see that haircut in Season 3's finale, it's a clue that Julie is already stepping into her role as a storywalker." The actress admitted she was "so pumped" when she learned about this direction for her character. "I never thought of Julie as the person to have something that special about her. I knew she was special, but I didn't know she had this ability. And now in Season 4, we confirm only Julie can do it—Randall couldn't. I was like, 'Yes! It's me.'"
Julie and Randall's Trauma-Bonded Friendship
One of the most compelling dynamics this season is Julie's unlikely friendship with Randall (A.J. Simmons). The two share a deep connection forged in the chambers, where they endured unspeakable horrors together. "They're trauma-bonded," Cheramy explained. "Marielle has Kristi, but Randall is very alone, and Julie feels alone too. That draws them together as an unlikely duo." While some fans speculate about a romantic angle, Cheramy sees it differently. "Personally, I see it as a big brother-little sister dynamic. But if you want that minor to be with that grown-ass man, sure," she laughed.
In Episode 4, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) gives Randall a classic "shovel talk," warning him to stay away from Julie. Cheramy noted the bittersweet undertone: "That was 100% a Jim moment. He was so protective, and he's not there anymore. Tabitha has to step up, and it's a 'touch her and die' scene. Mama bear."
The Heartbreaking Jim Scene
Cheramy also opened up about filming the devastating moment in Episode 2 when Julie and Ethan discover their father Jim's body in the barn. "It was really rough," she admitted. "We were very protective of Simon Webster, who plays Ethan. He wasn't on set while I was screaming, and I don't think he saw the body either. I only saw it for the first time when I did the scream." She praised writer John Griffin for the twist: "The fact that the monsters would know Tabitha would send the kids to the barn—genius. No notes."
As Julie continues to explore her storywalking abilities, fans can expect more revelations about the town's mysteries. For now, the haircut scene in Episode 4 serves as a chilling reminder that time in From is far from linear—and Julie is at the center of it all.
