We've all had that soul-crushing job we couldn't wait to quit. But for Dave Franco and O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s characters in the upcoming dark comedy Idiots, their latest gig might just be the worst—and most dangerous—yet. Macon Blair's new film promises a wild ride, and we've got an exclusive first look at the chaos.
In Idiots, Franco plays Mark, and Jackson Jr. plays Davis, two lifelong losers who can't seem to catch a break. When they land a job transporting a spoiled teenager (Mason Thames) to a rehab facility, it seems like a simple point-A-to-point-B mission. But nothing is ever simple for these two, and their journey quickly spirals into a series of disastrous, hilarious, and life-threatening events.
Our exclusive image shows Thames' character, Sheridan Kimberley, being escorted out of a building with an orange electrical cord wrapped around his hands and wrists. He's covered head to toe in a white powdery substance, scowling at the camera. But the real standout is Kiernan Shipka, who plays Irinia and is giving off major Natasha Lyonne energy in the shot. With her signature deadpan expression and a cigarette dangling from her lips, Shipka looks like she just stepped out of a Coen brothers movie.
The cast is stacked with talent, including three-time Emmy nominee Nicholas Braun (Succession), four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and four-time Grammy winner Killer Mike. Blair, known for his work on The Florida Project and The Toxic Avenger, directs from a script he co-wrote with Franco, who also produces alongside Brandon James, Jeremy Saulnier, and others.
If you're a fan of dark comedies that make you cringe and laugh in equal measure, Idiots is shaping up to be a must-see. The film hits theaters on August 28, and we'll have more coverage leading up to its release. In the meantime, check out our exclusive image above and start counting down the days.
