Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official images from Children of Blood and Bone, the highly anticipated fantasy adaptation based on Tomi Adeyemi's bestselling novel. The sneak peek arrives just months before its theatrical release on January 15, 2027, and offers fans a glimpse into the richly imagined world of Orïsha.

The film stars Amandla Stenberg (known for The Acolyte and The Hate U Give) alongside Damson Idris, who recently headlined the blockbuster F1 alongside Brad Pitt. Idris has been riding high since that film grossed over $600 million globally and became the #1 movie on Apple TV for the year. While fans have speculated he could take over the role of T'Challa in the Black Panther franchise, no official moves have been made by Marvel.

What Is Children of Blood and Bone About?

Set in the fantasy kingdom of Orïsha, the story follows a young woman on a quest to restore magic that was violently stripped from her people. She and her brother ally with the king's daughter and son to overthrow his brutal regime. The official synopsis reads: "In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule."

Written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard, Love & Basketball), the film has been in development for years. However, the project has been shadowed by controversy. Adeyemi, who is credited as an executive producer, has publicly distanced herself from the adaptation. In a surprising move, she posted a video on Instagram showing her blocking Stenberg, leading to speculation about creative differences.

Despite the author's disavowal, the first images showcase a visually stunning world, blending African-inspired aesthetics with high fantasy. The film joins a growing list of ambitious fantasy adaptations, and fans are eager to see if it can capture the magic of the source material.
