Square Enix is making sure 2027 is a massive year for Final Fantasy fans. Alongside the highly anticipated launches of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation and the Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold expansion, the company has revealed two new book tie-ins that will dive deeper into the worlds of Midgar and Eorzea.
Announced at Anime Expo 2026, these releases include Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Dear Destiny, a novel sequel to Traces of Two Pasts, and Final Fantasy XIV Picture Book: Me and the Cornservant, a lighthearted children's book. Both are set to arrive in early 2027, giving English-speaking fans a chance to explore new stories before the next big game launches.
Dear Destiny: Tifa and Aerith's Untold Stories
Written by Kazushige Nojima, Dear Destiny picks up where Traces of Two Pasts left off. The novel is split into two parts: one follows Tifa Lockhart as she grapples with the destruction of Nibelheim and her struggles running Seventh Heaven while evading the Turks. The other focuses on Aerith Gainsborough, recounting how she found her place selling flowers in Midgar and the anxiety she felt waiting for Zack Fair's return.
This isn't just a continuation—it's a deeper exploration of the bond between these two iconic characters. The book also includes a bonus prequel story about Cloud Strife's days as a Shinra trooper, offering fans even more context ahead of Revelation's spring release. Originally published in Japan in early 2026, the English version will hit shelves in January 2027.
Me and the Cornservant: A Whimsical Eorzean Adventure
On the lighter side, Me and the Cornservant is a picture book created by the official FFXIV development team. Written by Main Scenario Writer Banri Oda and illustrated by Naoki Ikushima and Rina Yoshiura, it follows the Cornservant—a tiny, living corncob creature introduced in the Dawntrail expansion. In the story, a young Miqo'te pokes the lonely corn-being, sparking an unexpected journey to feed the hungry across Tuliyollal.
This book is a charming departure from the epic, world-ending threats typical of FFXIV, embracing the game's whimsical side. It's perfect for all ages and continues the tradition of Eorzean picture books like The Namazu and the Greatest Gift. Pre-orders open in mid-July 2026, with a release set for April 2027.
For fans of fantasy storytelling, these books offer a unique way to experience the Final Fantasy universe beyond the games. Whether you're a longtime player or new to the series, they promise to enrich the lore and characters you love.
Pre-orders for Dear Destiny are available now at the Square Enix store and major retailers. Meanwhile, Me and the Cornservant will be available for pre-order starting mid-July. Both releases are part of Square Enix's broader push to expand the franchise's reach in 2027, alongside major game launches and other media projects.
