Get ready for a wild ride with Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner, who are teaming up for a thrilling new crime romance that's part love story, part high-speed chase. Carolina Caroline hits theaters on June 5, and we've got an exclusive first look at the film's most pulse-pounding sequence.
In this fresh take on the classic outlaw couple, Weaving plays Carolina Daniels, a small-town Texas woman desperate for a way out. Enter Oliver (Gallner), a charming con man who offers her a ticket to freedom—but also lands them in a heap of trouble with the law. Their passion-fueled road trip across the American Southwest quickly becomes a desperate game of cat and mouse.
A Tense Getaway
Our exclusive clip drops viewers right into the action as Oliver and Carolina try to shake the police. Oliver forces a chef on a smoke break to drive their car as a decoy, while the couple slips through a restaurant's back door, past startled cooks and diners, and out onto the street. They duck into a hardware store, where Oliver—clearly a pro at this—grabs tools to hotwire a new vehicle. Carolina ditches her disguise and, at Oliver's command, climbs into the trunk to avoid suspicion since the cops are hunting for two fugitives.
Even in these frantic moments, the chemistry between Weaving and Gallner is electric. Their trust in each other is palpable, and that bond is what will carry the film through its spiraling journey of love and crime. Each con and risky decision unfolds against a backdrop of classic Americana, with a country music soundtrack featuring Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, and Loretta Lynn. The cast also includes Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Gries.
A Reunion with a Cult Director
Carolina Caroline reunites Gallner with Adam Carter Rehmeier, who directed him in the cult favorite Dinner in America. Their latest collaboration premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year to strong reviews. Collider's Therese Lacson gave it an 8/10, writing, "From the country music needle drops to the oozing on-screen chemistry, anyone who loves a good crime movie that doesn't take itself too seriously will need to get their butts into the theater for this one."
Gallner credits Rehmeier for giving him the freedom to take risks. "Just like with Dinner in America and with this, Adam has always taken a shot on me, where he will let me do things that most people will not let me do," Gallner told Collider last year. "He's helped me, as an actor, get to play these roles, but also sort of change the narrative around who I am and how people see me as a performer."
