While the world eagerly awaits the return of some beloved '90s icons this summer, a new indie comedy is already delivering a potent dose of nostalgia. ShowtimeSpot is thrilled to present the exclusive debut of the trailer for Reunion, a film that recently captured the Audience Choice Award at the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival and is poised to be your next favorite comedy.
A Case of Mistaken Identity You Won't Forget
The film follows Guy Park (Jake Choi of Single Parents), a man stuck in a dead-end job as a mortuary assistant. In a bid to escape his grim reality, he decides to attend his 20-year high school reunion, hoping to relive past glories. What he gets is far more than he bargained for: his former classmates mistake him for Ellison Loudermilk, a reclusive Asian-American billionaire no one has seen since graduation. Guy suddenly finds himself living a lie, navigating the social minefield of his reunion while trying to keep up the charade.
An All-Star Cast of Classmates
Guy's high-stakes deception unfolds amidst a reunion filled with familiar faces from the past. The ensemble cast includes Madeline Zima (Doom Patrol) as class president Molly, Ryan Hansen (Party Down) as the ever-popular Dirk, and Frantz Latten (Matador) as football star Brad. They're joined by Helena Mattsson (The Rookie), Kelli Garner (V/H/S/85), Crystal Rivers (The Resident), Charlie Bodin (Halt and Catch Fire), and Sara Waisman (Fallout). The film also features Oscar-nominee Candy Clark (American Graffiti). Will any of them see through Guy's billionaire facade?
A Production Forged in Fire
The journey to bring Reunion to the screen was marked by real-world adversity. Production began in January 2025, coinciding with the devastating Eaton Fire—a tragedy that claimed lives, destroyed homes, and became one of California's most destructive wildfires. The cast and crew, some of whom lost their own homes, faced an immediate shutdown on their very first day of filming in Altadena.
"At a time when most indie films had left Los Angeles, we chose to stay," explained producer Noah Pitifer. "Despite these challenges, we remained united because we were deeply committed to the story and the enduring magic that Los Angeles continues to hold for the film industry." Their perseverance speaks to the passion behind this project, making its festival success all the more meaningful.
Behind the Camera
Reunion marks the feature directorial debut of John W. Kim, who also wrote the screenplay. He produced the film alongside Noah Pitifer and Michael Winnick (Guns, Girls, and Gambling). The executive producers are Sebastian Twardosz (Whisper in the Dark) and the late, legendary Fred Roos (Apocalypse Now).
