Halloween may still be months away, but the Land of Ooo is already getting into the spooky spirit. Oni Press, the multi-award-winning publisher behind countless Eisner and Harvey wins, has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to deliver the first-ever Adventure Time Halloween special. This 48-page one-shot comic, titled Adventure Time: Halloween Special #1, will haunt comic shops at the end of September—just in time for fans to grab a copy before the holiday. Collider is thrilled to share an exclusive first look at the four unique covers that reimagine Finn, Jake, and their friends in delightfully eerie styles.
Each cover strikes a perfect balance between the whimsy of the beloved Cartoon Network series and the macabre. First up is art by Sean Dove, known for his work on Sesame Street comics, who depicts Finn and Jake looking cute but determined as they trek through a forest where a giant crimson centipede monster looms overhead. Next, Agustin Morales of Go Go Proton! fame embraces the heroes' adventurous spirit, showing them standing triumphantly over defeated foes at the mouth of a cave that begs to be explored. Violet Tobacco, the artist behind RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant, takes a folkloric approach with a storybook-style cover featuring the duo dressed for trick-or-treating as they flee from the giant, chicken-footed hut of Baba Yaga. Finally, interior artist Adam Seats delivers a 1:10 variant cover that captures everything this new adventure contains—from old friends like BMO to classic foes like Magic Man, plus plenty of treasure.
Inside the special, writer Jeremy Melloul of Dungeon Masters Guild fame pens a story that begins with Finn and Jake taking on a special request for the adventurer's guild. But they fail to read the fine print and accidentally stumble into their most dangerous situation yet. This dungeon is unlike any other—it warps them into some of its monstrous residents and pits them against familiar faces and new enemies alike. Their only hope is to unravel its mysteries before they're overwhelmed not just by the monsters inside, but also the beast lurking within themselves.
This isn't the only new Adventure Time content on the horizon. Oni Press has been taking the franchise to new frontiers, from movie theaters to music-based Pride-themed trips down memory lane, long after Pendleton Ward's original series wrapped in 2018. But Finn and Jake are also about to tread new ground on-screen. A prequel spin-off series titled Adventure Time: Side Quests is set to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on June 29. It will whisk viewers back to the early days of Finn and Jake's brotherly bond, with adventures across Ooo that include fighting evil, partying with cloud people, and meeting up with old friends like Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, BMO, and the Ice King. Designed as a throwback to earlier seasons, it aims to get a new generation of fans invested while giving old fans a chance to jump back in for more whimsical fun under showrunner Nate Cash.
