Lionsgate is doubling down on its biggest franchises, and now it's time to put your baby in the corner—because Dirty Dancing is officially heading to Broadway. The studio announced that Dirty Dancing: The Musical will begin performances on February 12, 2027, at the Lena Horne Theater, with an official opening night set for March 14, 2027. The limited engagement will run through September 5, 2027, just in time to celebrate the iconic film's 40th anniversary.
The stage adaptation, which first premiered in 2004, has been a hit in various productions around the world. Now, it's finally making its Broadway debut under the direction of Lonny Price, a two-time Tony Award winner known for his work on Sunset Boulevard and Sweeney Todd. Price also has a personal connection to the original movie—he played Neil Kellerman in the 1987 film, so he knows the story inside and out.
Choreography will be handled by Darrell Grand Moultrie, whose credits include Fat Ham and Beyoncé's world tour. The production will also feature 21 new performers making their Broadway debuts, promising fresh energy and talent on stage.
This announcement comes as Lionsgate continues to expand its properties into live theater. The studio already has The Hunger Games: On Stage running in London, and Now You See Me is set to open on Broadway this fall. A stage version of La La Land is also in the works, showing that Lionsgate is serious about bringing its film hits to the stage.
For fans of the beloved movie, this is a chance to experience the timeless story of Baby and Johnny—and that iconic lift—live. The musical promises to include all the classic songs and moments that made the film a cultural touchstone.
If you're a fan of classic films returning to the spotlight, this is one to watch. And if you're already planning your Broadway calendar, mark those dates—this is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of 2027.
Stay tuned for more updates on Dirty Dancing: The Musical and other exciting stage adaptations from Lionsgate.
