Deborah Ann Woll, known for her roles in Daredevil: Born Again and True Blood, leads the upcoming horror thriller from filmmaker Jordan Downey, whose previous genre work includes The Head Hunter. The Cycle is heading to Fantastic Fest for its world premiere later this month before arriving on Shudder just in time for Halloween. Written and directed by Downey, with Kevin Stewart also credited as a writer, The Cycle begins when the body of a man who has been missing for 36 years is suddenly discovered at the scene of a horrific crime. His estranged daughter, Meg, played by Woll, is left to figure out what happened to him and why his body has resurfaced after all this time. Her investigation begins to unravel a hidden part of her father's life and a secret he apparently intended to take to the grave.
Woll is joined by Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice fame, along with Will Hochman, Jack Doolan, Carl W. Crudup, Jeb Berrier, Gretchen Corbett, and David Myers Gregory. Downey previously teamed with Stewart on The Head Hunter, the filmmaker's stripped-down 2018 fantasy horror movie about a warrior hunting the monster responsible for his daughter's death. The Cycle reunites the pair for a very different kind of genre story, although its central mystery once again involves a family reckoning with something horrific from the past. The movie also marks another major horror role for Woll, who previously starred in Escape Room in addition to her long-running role as Jessica Hamby on HBO's True Blood. More recently, she returned as Karen Page in Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again. In The Cycle, Woll plays Meg, whose determination to understand her father's disappearance pulls her further into the disturbing circumstances surrounding his return.
