What if every choice you didn’t make opened a door to another version of your life—and that version was out to get you? That’s the haunting premise of Apple TV+’s Dark Matter, a sci-fi thriller that turned a physicist’s ordinary existence into a multiversal nightmare. Now, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event for Summer 2026, we have a first look at Season 2, and the emotional fallout is far from over.
We’re thrilled to debut an exclusive new image from Dark Matter Season 2, featuring Joel Edgerton (Warrior) and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind). The series, based on Blake Crouch’s novel, follows Jason Dessen (Edgerton), a physicist whose life is violently upended when he’s pulled into an alternate reality. Season 1 was a tense, emotional puzzle about identity, marriage, and regret—proving that the grass isn’t always greener in another universe. Sometimes it’s actively trying to kill you.
The show was quickly renewed after critical acclaim and massive viewership. Last month, Apple TV+ announced the Season 2 premiere date and released an official synopsis: “The Dessens are building a quiet life in a seemingly safe world when the unimaginable happens, and they’re forced to leave. As Jason’s obsession with the Box builds, Daniela’s paranoia pushes her over the edge. Meanwhile, Amanda and Ryan start working together to get home, and Leighton pursues his grand dream of building a perfect world.”
Alongside Edgerton and Connelly, the cast includes Alice Braga (I Am Legend) as Amanda Lucas, Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) as Ryan Holder, Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games) as Leighton Vance, and Oakes Fegley (The Fabelmans) as Charlie Dessen. Blake Crouch, Jacque Ben-Zekry, and Matt Tolmach produce.
If you haven’t caught up yet, now’s the time. Dark Matter joins a lineup of Apple TV+ sci-fi hits like For All Mankind, which recently hit a 500-day streaming milestone. And for fans of mind-bending thrillers, Shining Girls offers another gripping ride with zero weak episodes.
Season 1 of Dark Matter is streaming now on Apple TV+. Season 2 premieres August 28. Stay tuned for more from our Exclusive Summer Preview event.
