Critical Role has become a powerhouse in entertainment, blending tabletop RPG storytelling with top-tier voice acting. The cast's latest campaign kicked off in October 2025, but fans are already buzzing about a potential crossover with another beloved fantasy property: Dungeon Crawler Carl.
During the first-ever live Collider Ladies Night at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles, Critical Role stars Laura Bailey, Marisha Ray, and Ashley Johnson played a game of Dicey Questions. When asked to fan-cast each other in a film or show, Bailey immediately thought of the upcoming Peacock series Dungeon Crawler Carl.
What Is 'Dungeon Crawler Carl'?
Based on Matt Dinniman's bestselling book series, Dungeon Crawler Carl follows survivors of an alien invasion forced into a deadly game show dungeon. Each level brings new challenges, NPCs, and bosses—plus a talking cat named Donut. The series has spawned eight novels, and in 2024, Universal International Studios and Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door won a bidding war for the TV rights. Peacock recently gave it a straight-to-series order.
Bailey's Perfect Pitch
Bailey, who's been reading the books, had a specific role in mind for Ray: Samantha. “She’s a sex doll,” Bailey revealed, “but also hilarious and psycho.” She explained that Ray's performance on the podcast Weird Kids—where she played a tiny-headed character—inspired the idea. Ray laughed and joked, “I’ll do anything. Hollywood, I’ll do anything.”
Bailey also expressed her own dream role: “I want to be Donut so bad.” Given her voice acting prowess, it's a casting that would undoubtedly shine. The entire Critical Role cast has proven their range through The Legend of Vox Machina on Prime Video, which just wrapped its fourth season.
With the Dungeon Crawler Carl series generating major buzz, adding Critical Role talent would only amplify the excitement. As Bailey put it, “I’m freaking out about it.”
