Charlie Hunnam, best known for his role as Jax Teller in the hit motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy, has finally addressed the upcoming spin-off series, Sons of Anarchy: Legends. In a recent interview, Hunnam clarified what fans can expect from the new show, and it's not what many might assume.
Hunnam, who also starred in Pacific Rim and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, has been tight-lipped about the project since it was announced. However, while promoting the new season of his Netflix series Monster, he opened up about the spin-off's unique premise.
Not Season 8, But Something New
When asked if Sons of Anarchy: Legends would serve as the long-awaited eighth season of the original show, Hunnam was quick to dispel that notion. "All I can say is that it's definitely not Season 8 of Sons of Anarchy," he said. Instead, the series will feature the original cast members playing themselves, reuniting after a decade apart for a convention celebrating the show. But things take a wild turn as they're drawn into a larger conflict than any of them could have imagined.
Hunnam, who also co-created the spin-off with Jonathan Groff, revealed that the idea stemmed from his own dreams about the cast getting back together. "It was an idea that I had, an opportunity to bring that group of people that I absolutely love together," he explained. "Really born out of me having several dreams over a period of time about us all being back together."
The Original Series' Legacy
The original Sons of Anarchy ran for seven seasons from 2008 to 2014, earning critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. The show followed Jax Teller, a single father and member of the outlaw motorcycle club SAMCRO, as he navigated the club's illegal activities while trying to protect his town of Charming, California. The series holds impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes, with 87% from critics and 91% from audiences.
Now, with Sons of Anarchy: Legends, Hunnam and the cast are taking a meta approach, playing exaggerated versions of themselves. This isn't the first time a show has gone down this path, but for fans of the original, it's an exciting prospect to see the gang back together in any form.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, Hunnam's comments suggest a fun, adventurous tone. "It's the same group of actors, but we are all playing ourselves, going on a mad adventure, coming together after 10 years apart, although maintaining that deep friendship in that time," he teased.
