In a recent exclusive interview, the beloved genre icon revealed that there's one cult-classic role he'd be thrilled to revisit — and it's not the one fans might expect.
While promoting his new film Ernie & Emma, Campbell opened up about the possibility of returning to the Wild West. The actor, who has left an indelible mark on television with roles in Xena: Warrior Princess, Burn Notice, and Ash vs. Evil Dead, admitted that he's particularly fond of his 1993 series The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. — and he has a pretty compelling pitch for a modern-day continuation.
"I don't really need to revisit any of them, but Brisco would be fun as an older cowboy," Campbell shared. "He might be, he's just a lawyer now. You know cause he was a lawyer in the show, he was a Harvard-educated lawyer. So he would just have his own practice in San Francisco."
Campbell's vision for the reboot is as inventive as the original series, which blended Western tropes with sci-fi elements. He imagines a story that honors the past while introducing fresh faces. "Lord Bowler would be killed cause Julius Carry is no longer with us, so I would have it start with 'Who killed Lord Bowler?'" he explained. "I'd start at his grave marker, and Brisco is a successful lawyer in San Francisco now, and Socrates has his own law firm now, and everyone's rich and comfortable."
The actor also teased a new generation of characters, including Brisco's son and Bowler's angry offspring, who would join forces to take on a new wave of villains. "There are a lot of bad guys beyond Bly," he said. "We killed Bly, but there's a whole thread that they gotta mount up again."
For those unfamiliar, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. followed a Harvard-educated lawyer turned bounty hunter in the Old West, facing off against outlaws armed with futuristic weaponry. The show developed a devoted cult following, and Campbell's enthusiasm for a revival has sparked hope among fans.
While Campbell's schedule is currently packed — he's also gearing up for the release of Army of Darkness on Prime Video — his pitch for a Brisco revival is sure to ignite conversations about the show's potential return.
