When it comes to streaming cop dramas, few actors have left a mark as deep as Titus Welliver. For nearly a decade, he's embodied the gritty, principled LAPD detective Harry Bosch—first in the original Bosch series, which ran for seven seasons starting in 2014, and then in the spin-off Bosch: Legacy. While network TV has long dominated the police procedural genre, Welliver was a pioneer in bringing a top-tier crime saga exclusively to streaming, and Prime Video reaped the rewards.
Bosch: Legacy premiered in 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite, even reuniting Bosch with a former adversary. But the show's cancellation after just three seasons left viewers stunned and frustrated. It didn't feel like a natural conclusion for the character—more like a cold corporate decision that ignored the passionate audience. Now, two years after the last new episode dropped, the series is making an unexpected comeback in the streaming charts, proving that its cancellation was a mistake.
According to recent data, Bosch: Legacy has surged back into Prime Video's top 10 most-watched titles. This resurgence comes as fans eagerly await the second season of Ballard, the latest spin-off starring Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard. Welliver appeared in a few episodes of Ballard Season 1, and he's confirmed to return for Season 2, keeping the Bosch universe alive and thriving.
For those who haven't caught up, Ballard follows Detective Renée Ballard as she leads the LAPD's underfunded cold case division. The official synopsis teases: "Detective Renée Ballard leads the LAPD's new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city's most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades—including a serial killer's string of murders and a murdered John Doe—she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch, Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth."
Prime Video isn't stopping there. The streamer is also developing a prequel series titled Start of Watch, which will explore Bosch's younger days. Cameron Monaghan—best known for voicing Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi video games—has been cast as a young Harry Bosch. Welliver won't be involved in that project, but the expansion of the Bosch universe shows Amazon's commitment to the franchise.
