San Diego Comic-Con delivered a surprise for Star Wars fans this weekend: a direct sequel to The Book of Boba Fett is on the way—but not as a TV show. Instead, Lucasfilm Publishing is expanding the bounty hunter's saga in a new comic book series, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, hitting shelves this August.
The original Disney+ series, which aired back in 2021, starred Temuera Morrison as the iconic bounty hunter trying to establish himself as the new crime lord of Tatooine. Despite Morrison's public push for a second season, Disney has not ordered one. But this comic series offers fans a proper continuation of Boba's story.
What the Comic Series Will Cover
The seven-issue series is written by Star Wars veterans Rodney Barnes (Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon, Ahsoka) and Will Sliney (Rise of Kylo Ren). It picks up right after the events of the show, with Boba Fett ruling from Jabba the Hutt's former palace. He must face new threats to his control over Tatooine's underworld while dealing with the lingering chaos from his escape from the Sarlacc pit.
The comic will also introduce characters from the series who didn't get much screen time, including Garsa Fwip, Dokk Strassi, and Mok Shaiz's majordomo. It promises to explore the challenges of keeping order on a lawless desert planet.
Star Wars' Busy Year
2026 has already been a mixed year for the franchise. The Disney+ series Maul — Shadow Lord was a critical and fan favorite, thanks largely to Sam Witwer's performance as the Dark Side user. Disney quickly renewed it for a second season, and it remains in the top 10 in several countries. On the other hand, The Mandalorian and Grogu—the first Star Wars movie in seven years—is on track to become the lowest-grossing film in the franchise's history.
