Vampires have been having a moment across screens big and small, from the gothic drama of Interview with the Vampire (now rebranded as The Vampire Lestat) to the long-awaited Blade reboot and the Oscar-winning Sinners. But the genre is about to sink its teeth into a new medium in a major way: video games.

Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by veterans of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has officially set a release date for its debut title, Blood of the Dawnwalker. The open-world action RPG will launch worldwide on September 3, 2026, as confirmed in a recent story trailer. Pre-orders are now live.

Taylor Sheridan's modern western masterpiece 'Hell or High Water' arrives on HBO Max in June 2026. Starring Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges, this critically acclaimed film is a must-watch.

What Is Blood of the Dawnwalker?

Set in 14th-century Europe, the game casts players as Coen, a protagonist who lives a double life: human by day, vampire by night. This duality isn't just flavor—it's central to the gameplay. The entire main story must be completed within 30 in-game days, with certain quests only available during daylight or after dark. It's a ticking clock that forces players to choose how to spend their limited time.

The developers have described it as the most ambitious vampire fantasy in years, blending deep RPG mechanics with a narrative that reacts to your choices. Given the team's pedigree—key members worked on two of the most acclaimed RPGs of the last decade—expectations are high.

September Is Stacked

Blood of the Dawnwalker won't have an easy run. Less than two weeks later, on September 16, Insomniac Games releases Marvel's Wolverine, the follow-up to their blockbuster Spider-Man series. Both titles will then have to contend with the looming shadow of GTA 6, which arrives on November 19 with a reported budget exceeding $1 billion—making it one of the most expensive entertainment products ever created.

Vampires Everywhere

The vampire renaissance isn't limited to games. On TV, The Vampire Lestat (formerly Interview with the Vampire) returns at the end of June, adapting Anne Rice's iconic novels. The 1994 film adaptation famously paired Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise for the only time in their careers. Meanwhile, Marvel's Blade movie continues to face delays and creative shakeups, and Sinners dominated the Oscars earlier this year.

But for gamers, Blood of the Dawnwalker represents the most direct fusion of the vampire mythos with a sprawling, choice-driven RPG. With its day/night cycle, time-limited story, and pedigree behind it, this could be the bloodsucker game fans have been waiting for.
