Nearly 45 years after its initial release, Blade Runner continues to captivate audiences, and now fans will have a chance to step directly into its rain-soaked, neon-drenched world. ShowtimeSpot has exclusively learned that Behaviour Interactive and PHI Studio are developing a Blade Runner immersive experience set to debut in multiple North American cities starting in 2027.
This isn't your typical movie-themed attraction. According to the creators, the experience will plunge visitors into the high-tech dystopia of Blade Runner 2049, blending immersive environments, cinematic visuals, spatialized sound, and interactive elements. Dominique Lebel, Senior Vice-President at Behaviour Interactive, explained that the project aims to make the franchise's themes feel more relevant than ever. "Blade Runner depicts a world where the line between human and artificial is becoming increasingly blurred," Lebel said. "The dystopian world depicted in Blade Runner may seem increasingly real today, which is why it remains as powerful as ever."
Julie Tremblay, General Manager at PHI Studio, emphasized that the experience is designed for everyone, not just die-hard fans. "The questions at the core of this universe—What makes us human? Who holds power? What do we owe each other in a world shaped by technology?—are the questions we're all living with right now," she said. "The parallels are somehow more real than ever, which is what makes this universe thrilling!"
Tremblay also clarified that this is "not a film adaptation or a traditional exhibition," but rather "a premium, multisensory experience combining immersive environments, cinematic visuals, spatialized sound, interactivity, and physical exploration." The goal is to make visitors feel fully surrounded by the world of Blade Runner—its beauty, tension, mystery, and scale. She added, "The dream is that different generations can experience it together—people who grew up with the films and younger audiences discovering Blade Runner for the first time—and all leave equally excited by the world."
The experience is being developed in collaboration with Alcon Entertainment, the holder of the Blade Runner intellectual property rights. While specific cities have yet to be announced, the rollout will begin in 2027 across several North American locations.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Blade Runner (1982) is loosely adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a "blade runner" tasked with hunting down rogue replicants—artificial humans. The noir-tinged sci-fi masterpiece initially flopped at the box office but later became a cult classic and a cornerstone of the cyberpunk genre. Its legacy includes multiple director's cuts, a 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling, and an upcoming Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099 featuring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schaefer.
