Marvel fans, mark your calendars: Black Panther 3 is officially coming to theaters on December 15, 2028. The announcement came during Marvel's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where the studio also confirmed that Ryan Coogler will return to direct the next chapter of Wakanda's story. This will be Coogler's first film since his Oscar-winning vampire horror Sinners, which earned him Best Original Screenplay and saw Michael B. Jordan take home Best Lead Actor.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, we do know that Black Panther 3 will be shot entirely on film for large-format presentations—a nod to Coogler's love for classic cinematic techniques. The movie is also set to debut after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, placing it in the MCU's next major phase.
Who's in the Cast?
Oscar winner Denzel Washington will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther 3, though his role is still a mystery. Even more exciting: Alien: Covenant star David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther. For more on that, check out our piece on David Jonsson's casting as T'Challa's son.
Letitia Wright is expected to reprise her role as Shuri, who took up the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever following the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. Shuri is also confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, where she'll face off against Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his Talokan forces.
What About Avengers: Doomsday?
Shuri's role in Doomsday was teased in the first trailer released last year, and a more recent trailer has doubled down on the conflict between Wakanda and Talokan. Expect her to be a major player, much like T'Challa was in Infinity War and Endgame.
Marvel is expected to share more details about Black Panther 3 next year. In the meantime, you can stream Coogler's first two Black Panther films on Disney+. For more MCU updates, stay tuned to ShowtimeSpot.
