Some stories are so foundational that they don't really feel like prequels, even when they technically arrive before the main event. They sit underneath everything else, shaping the world, the faith, the conflicts, and the people who come later. That's the lane for Prime Video's new three-part House of David companion special, which reaches back into the history that helped form Israel long before David took the throne. And with an Oscar winner stepping into one of the most iconic biblical roles ever, this one is not exactly going small.
Today we're thrilled to bring you a new look at The Old Stories: Moses with the first poster for the upcoming special. The poster shows off Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler's List) as the titular Moses, wielding his staff and preparing to lead his people to freedom. The official trailer is out now, with the three-part companion special set to premiere exclusively on Wonder Project on May 14, 2026.
Set in the world of House of David, the series opens a window into the stories that shaped Israel before David's rise, while showing how a young shepherd sees his own future reflected in the courage, failure, and obedience of those who came before him. The official description reads: “From the world of House of David, The Old Stories: Moses is a three-part companion special that opens a window into the narratives that shaped Israel long before David took the throne. As the past unfolds with epic force, a young shepherd sees his own future reflected in the courage, failure, and obedience of those who came before him.”
Who's Involved in 'The Old Stories'?
In addition to Kingsley, the cast includes O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid's Tale, Black Widow) as Pharaoh, Louis Ferreira (Stargate Universe, House of David), Anna Khaja (The Good Place, The Chosen), and Rada Rae (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping). The special is produced by Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, and is created by Jon Erwin, whose credits include House of David, Jesus Revolution, and the upcoming Young Washington. Erwin's involvement keeps the companion special tied closely to the creative world of House of David, while the casting of Kingsley gives the project immediate weight. If you're going to build a three-part event around Moses, having the actor who won an Oscar for Gandhi in the role is a pretty strong place to start.
For fans of Prime Video's biblical epics, this is a must-watch. The streaming service has been doubling down on faith-based and historical dramas, and The Old Stories: Moses looks to be a standout.
