Apple TV's 'For All Mankind' Spin-Off 'Star City' Drops Final Trailer, Premieres May 29
Apple TV has unveiled the final trailer for 'Star City,' the 'For All Mankind' spin-off shifting the space race drama behind the Iron Curtain. The series premieres May 29, 2026.

Paramount+ will also host the same core content, but with an exclusive bonus: the short-lived prequel series Caprica. This show explores the birth of the Cylons and life in the Twelve Colonies before their annihilation, offering deeper context for the main series.

What Is 'Battlestar Galactica' About?

Originally a campy 1970s cult classic, the 2000s reboot transformed Battlestar Galactica into a gritty, politically charged drama. The story follows the Twelve Colonies of Kobol—a coalition of human-occupied planets—after they are devastated by the robotic Cylons, a race of machines they created. The survivors flee aboard the aging warship Galactica, led by Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and newly sworn-in President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell). Together, they guide a ragtag civilian fleet on a desperate search for the legendary 13th colony: Earth.

But the Cylons are not just chrome-plated mechanical marauders. They have evolved humanoid models that can infiltrate the fleet undetected. Among them is the seductive Number Six (Tricia Helfer) and other sleeper agents who may be hiding among the crew—including hotshot pilots Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) and Boomer (Grace Park), the brilliant but conflicted scientist Gaius Baltar (James Callis), and even Adama's own son, Lee (Jamie Bamber).

Why This Series Still Matters

Masterminded by Ronald D. Moore (For All Mankind), the reboot elevated sci-fi television with its complex characters, moral ambiguity, and prescient themes of terrorism, artificial intelligence, and survival. It remains a benchmark for the genre, influencing shows like The Walking Dead and The Expanse. For fans of modern sci-fi, this is essential viewing.

If you're new to the series, the free Pluto TV channel is the perfect entry point. And for those who want to dive deeper, Colman Domingo on Becoming Joe Jackson offers another example of transformative storytelling, though in a very different genre.

With the May 1 launch, Battlestar Galactica joins a growing library of classic sci-fi on free streaming platforms. Tom Hardy's Chilling Soviet Thriller 'Child 44' Hits Pluto TV and Snowpiercer's Complete Series Boards Free Streaming are also available for those craving more dystopian thrills.

So set your calendars. The Cylons are coming—and this time, they're free.
