Denzel Washington's 'Equalizer' Trilogy Lands on HBO Max This July 2026
Denzel Washington's 'Equalizer' trilogy, directed by Antoine Fuqua, arrives on HBO Max on July 1, 2026. All three films starring Washington as vigilante Robert McCall.

What's the Franchise About?

The Expendables series follows Barney Ross (Stallone), a grizzled mercenary leader who assembles a team of elite soldiers for high-stakes missions. Jason Statham plays Lee Christmas, the knife-wielding Brit, alongside a rotating cast of action icons. The crew includes Dolph Lundgren as Gunner Jensen, Randy Couture as Toll Road, Terry Crews as Hale Caesar, and Jet Li as Yin Yang. Across the four films, you'll also see Arnold Schwarzenegger as Trench, Bruce Willis as Mr. Church, and Jean-Claude Van Damme as the villain Jean Vilain. It's basically a reunion of every action star from the '80s and '90s.

How Did the Movies Perform?

The first Expendables was a smash in 2010, earning $268 million worldwide on an $82 million budget. The sequel did even better, pulling in $312 million. But the third film dipped to $209 million, and 2023's Expend4bles bombed hard with just $51 million against a $100 million budget. Despite that, Stallone has hinted at passing the torch to a new generation, so the franchise might not be done yet.
