The 9-1-1 universe is expanding in a big way. Showrunner Rashad Raisani has officially confirmed that 9-1-1: Nashville will cross over with its parent series, 9-1-1, in the upcoming season—and there's even a nod to the dearly departed Lone Star.
After a rocky start with fluctuating ratings, 9-1-1: Nashville has proven itself a worthy addition to ABC's emergency services lineup. The spin-off, starring Chris O'Donnell as Captain Don Hart, found its footing and earned a Season 2 renewal. It will return on Thursdays starting October 15, airing right after the flagship 9-1-1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
In a fall preview for TV Line, Raisani revealed that two crossovers are planned for Nashville's sophomore run. The first will be a smaller-scale event, with Oliver Stark's Buck popping up via FaceTime to assist the Music City crew when they face an emergency eerily similar to one he once handled. It's a clever way to bridge the two shows without a full-blown meetup.
The second crossover, however, will be a full-blown event. Around Episode 8 or 9, the casts of both 9-1-1 series will collide in a major storyline. While details are under wraps, Raisani hinted that this crossover could also bring back characters from 9-1-1: Lone Star, the Texas-set spin-off that ended last year. That opens the door for Rob Lowe's Captain Owen Strand to return to the action, much to the delight of fans who mourned the show's cancellation.
This news comes on the heels of other crossover excitement in the TV world, like the Fire Country and Sheriff Country crossover set for November. It seems networks are leaning into shared universes more than ever.
For those who miss the original Nashville (the country music drama, not the first responder spin-off), you might want to catch it before it leaves Netflix—its run ends in August 2026. And if you're a fan of Hayden Panettiere, her Nashville is also leaving Netflix in September.
