Get ready to power up, because the most iconic magical-girl franchise of all time is making a triumphant return to the big screen this summer. Sailor Moon is back, and this time it's bringing a live theatrical experience that fans outside Japan have been craving. The event, titled Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live, will screen at Tokyo's historic Togeki theater on August 1, 2, 5, and 6.
This isn't your typical anime re-release. Instead, the screenings will feature filmed recordings of the 2025 international stage tour, which brought the beloved series to life through choreography, costumes, and music. Two distinct versions will be shown: the Team UK performance from London, led by Yui Yokoyama, and the Team US version from the North American run, led by Riko Tanaka. The US tour visited 21 cities across North America, and now both Japanese-speaking and English-speaking audiences can relive the magic.
Tickets are priced at ¥3,900 (about $24) and go on sale July 3 at 9 p.m. JST on a first-come, first-served basis. Remaining seats will be available at the Togeki box office starting July 4. Each day will feature one screening of each team's performance, so fans can choose their preferred version.
The announcement comes during a busy period for the franchise, which also includes a new Line Friends collaboration visual, a Figuarts ZERO chouette Neo Queen Serenity figure, and fresh official fan-club memberships. While some might compare Sailor Moon to later magical-girl hits like Winx Club, the two are distinct in their origins and appeal. Sailor Moon debuted in the early '90s and built its mythology around reincarnation, planetary powers, and schoolgirl friendships, with transformation sequences that turned femininity into superhero spectacle. Winx Club, which arrived about eight years later, took a more Western approach with fairy boarding-school fantasy and Y2K fashion. Both became global phenomena, but Sailor Moon remains the emotional, mythic cornerstone of the genre.
